<p class="Paragraph">You can save changed colors, gradients, hatchings and bitmap patterns as user-defined files.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The tab is called <span class="T1">Background</span> when you access it in <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Impress or <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Draw via <span class="T1">Format - Page</span>.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">If you have made the area invisible and you wish to undo this attribute, then not only do you have to assign it another area style (such as a color), but you also have to select the corresponding color you want. Otherwise the <span class="T1">None</span> option will not be undone.</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Fills the area with a gradient from the current gradient list.</help:help-text> Make your selection in the <span class="T1">Area Fill</span> list box.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Fills the area with a hatching from the current hatching list.</help:help-text> Make your selection in the <span class="T1">Area Fill</span> list box. You can also give the hatching a background color if required.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Fills the selected object with a bitmap pattern from the current bitmap list.</help:help-text> Make your selection in the <span class="T1">Area Fill</span> list box. You can define your own bitmap pattern or load it from a pixel graphic file and add it to the list. For example, open a <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Draw object and draw a rectangle (or draw a rectangle with the <span class="T1">Show Draw Functions</span> floating toolbar in a text document). Right click the rectangle (call its context menu) and select the <span class="T1">Area...</span> command. You can now load or draw a pattern in the <help:link Id="65668" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Bitmaps</help:link> tab.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">If you choose one of the options <span class="T1">Color, Gradient, Hatching</span> or <span class="T1">Bitmap</span>, the respective list is displayed, where you will be able to select the desired area fill.</help:help-text> Not only are the basic colors available, such as "Magenta" but also numerous color nuances, such as "pale yellow".</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Displays the color name for an object selected in an open file whose color is not in the active color table. To color other objects with the new color, add it to the active color table via the <help:link Id="66226" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Format - Area - Colors</help:link> dialog.</p>
<p class="Head2">Increment</p>
<p class="Paragraph">This area is visible only if the <span class="T1">Gradient</span> option is selected. You can choose between automatic and manual setting of the gradient.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click here to automatically define the increment for the color gradient.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Specify here the gradient's increment resolution.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Click here to adjust the size of the bitmap relative to the object area.</help:help-text> Click the check box to have the data displayed as percentages in the <span class="T1">Width</span> and <span class="T1">Height</span> spin boxes. Click again to switch to measurement units.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">Specify the position of the bitmap here. The current position is shown by a dot.</p>

<p class="Head2">Relocation</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In this area, you can control the movement of rows or columns in the bitmap.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">The area is only visible if you have selected <span class="T1">Hatching</span> as the type for the area fill.</p>
